The London eye
I- Description
The name of this monument is Big Eye because the wheel is regarded as the eye of London. It measures 137 meters that is to say 450 feets high. It is localised on the bank of the Thames. The wheel is comprised of 32 cabins, air-conditioned and closed, which turn on themselves at the same time as the wheel. Each cabin can take people on board approximately every 30 minutes. Her name comes from its sponsor British Airways.
II- Construction
The architects of the eye of London are husband and the team of wife, Julia Barfield and the marks of David, gaining competition so that ideas mark millennium, their design were regarded as the most imaginative project conceived. The Millennium wheel was at first constructed on the ground by the Thames. But the engineers under estimated the strength needed to lift it and put it in place, in the vertical. It took a lot of cranes to raise it.
III- Tourism
The price for an adult is of ₤12.50 and for the 5 year old children to 15 years ₤6.50. For less than 5 years it is free. As for the people over 60 years they pays ₤10.00. And to finish the groups of 15 people receive a reduction of 10%.
In 2004-2005 London eye was by visited 3.250.000 people.
