The history of Brioude


 

Brioude is a city of the department of the Haute-Loire. Haute-Loire is a department of the region of Auvergne.

For the pilgrim Brioude is on the Saint-Jacques-of-Compostelle way, where people venerated the holy relics of saint Julien. In Brioude,there is a very beautiful church and many historical buildings. The town was built around the Basilic church.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



 

Saint Julien was a martyr in the 4th century. Saint Julien is  Roman soldier who converted to Chistianity and was killed.

The house of the salmon

The house of the salmon is a museum-aquarium about the life of salmon and Brioude. There are two parts. The first part, tells the history and traditions of salmon in Brioude. In the second part, there are aquariums which show the fish of the river Allier. This is very interesting.

This is a house of Mandrin

 

   The house of Mandrin and Mandrin.


Mandrin was born in 1724 in Saint Etienne in Isère. Mandrin was a bandit but he helped poor people. He acted like Robin  Hood. He was killed in 1755 after horrible public tortures.

The house of Mandrin entered into history the 26th August 1754, the date of the visit of Mandrin to Brioude.

Now, the house of Mandrin is place of expositions of art.
