When one commits oneself to learning the Greek in 3th form, one keeps this option all the year, the subject is reproduced on the bulletin in the average. With the diploma, only the points above 10/20 are taken into account. One cannot thus be penalized by this option.

Why study the old Greek nowadays?

It is initially a language at the origin of much of French words, the words with  H -, pH -, or  HT -, and those which comprise Y, very often come from Greek. So one can better understand the spelling and the vocabulary of French in many fields. Then, to take  Greek is to be interested in the history of a great civilization, at the origin of our democracy, Olympic Games, theatre, philosophy, and  also in mathematical or astronomical discoveries (Thalès, Pythagore...). Also let us quote all the mythology, its gods and its heroes, of Jupiter and Ulysses as well as Héraclès, Oedipus, Thésée and Minotaure.......

So to learn the Greek gives an intellectual and cultural enrichment of the very first order.
